TEAM MACHO IS A TOUGH MAN [27 Jun 2006|11:00pm]
It's Tradition

Wow, neat! I can put photos in here from my Flickr account. Technology is cool! Oh, and I got a blackberry today so I guess that increases my tech points to 2.

[ music | sufjan stevens and warcraft ]

Well, I thought I'd start posting again. Happy New Year!!

Tonite Steve and i went for dinner at Terroni and I was so hungry I ate a huge bowl of spaghetti, plus 2 pcs of Steve's pizza and dessert. When we left Steve was like, "would you like to eat my mismatched socks and the rest of my hair too?" I said no but secretly I was still a little hungry. Is this the appetite of 2006?

Today when I went by Steve's computer this is what was up as his screensaver:
YOU HAVE NO FUCKING EMAILS

The Book of Shrigley is the best thing I've read this year! It's my staff pick of the week! It's my anger management program.

Hi Livejournal!

LJ Interests meme results

  1. bubble tea:
I used to be really into going for bubble tea - partially because I like really, really sweet things and partially because I liked the experience of going to the weird bubble tea cafe with illegal gambling in the back and new friendships and big toast and all sorts of strange times would go on. Now there are a zillion bubble tea cafes and my mom even drinks it, so it's just not the same. But bubble tea and that drink you push the ball into & make fizz are still my favourite (non-booze) drinks.
  2. cupcakes:
Yum! They are mini - which I love - and pretty and sweet with so much satisfying icing in every bite. And you don't need utensils to eat them. Utensils are not on my interest list.
  3. esg:
It's actually ESG...but all my interests are in small letters. You will bop, rock and roll to these ladies. How I wish I had a bunch of sisters like the ESG girls. Christmas would be so cool.
  4. horoscopes:
Because the stars don't lie! I'm a scorpio. It's a gift and a curse. Just don't cross me please, I can't be held responsible.
  5. love hotels:
Ah, mais oui! Because they are the best invention ever! A hotel for trysts that is actually fun and sexy and ridiculous. I want to go on a love hotel only vacation!!
  6. mixed tapes:
Mixed tapes are the windows to your soul.
  7. paper rodeo:
paperrad = rad. Really spazzed out cool art that makes me giddy.
  8. roller coasters:
They are risky and reckless. My life is one big roller coaster so I'm not sure how much I really like them anymore, but hey they were still on the interest list.
  9. sunshine:
I also like rain, but sunshine works well with my surfnsand obsession.
  10. vintage:
Because sometimes the past is a lot more interesting than the mindless shit being churned out today.

Frenchy [18 Apr 2005|12:21pm]
ponyvolt

The day after I returned from Paris, I had to put my French Skillz to work because we got interviewed by French TVO for a show called Volt. It is a show for teens and they made us pretend to be interviewed by a giant Bunniguru and Steve had to snap and pretend I appeared on his lap and then snap and pretend he turned into a toy. It was very silly and the tv people loved Steve and kept telling him what a natural he was. They suggested he start his own tv toy talk show.

We had to sit up on our counter too and say "bonjour Steve! Bonjour Kristin! Vous ecoutez VOLT TV!"

We also got to request a video, so we picked my french love Michel Gondry. sigh.

Oh yes, and I went to Paris so more about that soon.

seeing red [02 Apr 2005|12:53am]
Sin City is like comic book day over and over again for 2 full hours. Steve was in heaven. I can still taste the blood. On the way home it was pouring rain and our windshield wipers stopped working but I don't think Steve cared because I'm pretty sure he was pretending he was in Sin City. Just a theory. If only I would have had 2 cigarettes to light...

Now Steve's in the kitchen exclaiming about all the things he loved about the movie. Wow, he can't stop talking about it. Pretty cute - sometimes I feel like I live with a 10 year old. I better go...he's still going crazy over it - wanting me to go over all of the stuff in the film and then wanting to know which parts I liked better. Any minute now he's going to notice I haven't said anything back yet!

Me and Mondrian's one night stand [01 Apr 2005|12:41am]
[ music | beginnings of shadows ]

So much happens but I just don't seem to get the time to write it out. Must try to change that!

Today was beautiful and so I wore my Mondrian slippers and my VV knickers and my big ass glasses and my grandmother scarf. I went for a walk. Steve drove by and yelled out the window "Hey Grey Gardens!" and we went for a stroll down to the second hand bookshop. He got a novel called "Foundation" and I got an old art zine called Free Parking. Does anyone remember the collective 'Free Parking' in Toronto? It existed in 1995/96 and everything was free there, even the parking.

My Mondrian slippers carried me to 2 banks, Le Gourmand and back home. Then they carried me up to the Annex where I rented Shadows by Cassavetes and Tara waived our late fees which was very cool of her. My Mondrians and I went for take out to Sushi on Bloor - please please please - TELL ME WHY this is supposed to be the best sushi place in the city. It is terrible unless you don't eat fish. Sushi on Bloor is the best damn vegetarian sushi place I'm sure. It's officially added to the banned list.

On the way to my next destination one of my mondrian slippers had a falling out with me. I flapped along with half of the sole coming off and eventually it got so bad I had to peel the sole off and walk on. We went to Xpace despite my shoe handicap and checked out Boys Club - a collection of female illustrators exploring the term "boys club". It was a good show, some really nice work and I got to meet Aaron Leighton's mum and dad!

We tried to go to Supermarket next but there was a scary line up. So, me and my broken Mondrian walked ourselves home.

Happy Birthday Noel! I'm sorry I missed your party. Can I take you out for a drink instead?

Baseman at Magic Pony [25 Jan 2005|09:22pm]
People keep asking when Magic Pony is going to have a party and guess what? We're having one tomorrow night!!

Mister Gary Baseman is showing artwork, launching a figure and doing a signing at Magic Pony Wed. Jan. 26 from 6-?. Toronto kids, I'd love it if you stopped by to have a drink and a toy and defrost with us for awhile. Baseman did a bunch of beautifully bizarre sketches and screenprints for the show and we have that Dumb Luck figure that everyone's been asking about. It's a fantastic reason for a party - so shovel your walks and get out of the house tomorrow! Here is link to the invite:

[ music | unkle ]

Yesterday it was just crazy, Crazy outside. It was like snowing then freezing then melting then snowing then freezing until the street was one gooey disaster. None of the streetcars were working and people were having some trouble moving about. I have these really tall rubber boots though, so I was okay.

I went on a Christmas shopping mission but didn't have much luck. Steve's been wanting to get some sort of sporty jacket so I ventured into MEC...I couldn't bring myself to buy any of the clothes there (I just don't get it), but I did find a wicked traveling egg case!

Last night we watched the Ice Storm. I forgot how much I like that movie.

Merry Christmas eve!

I watched:

Lemony Snickets...The sets, art direction and costume design were fantastic. Definitely see the Tim Burton/Edward Gorey influenced and I enjoy watching that sort of sensibility. I especially liked the big telephone receivers and cassettes in the cars. Other than that, it was pretty forgettable.

I bopped:

Been trying to find this one for awhile. Don't want to listen to much else but Fela these days.

i read:

I am loving that new KAWS figure. Damn, I hate getting pulled into the hype but it's so cute!

*Hanne made a Magic Pony stamp for our shopping bags for Christmas and little felt christmas pins. I have a mini sled on my blazer.
*My fortune today said "you will travel to many exotic places." PANAMA is calling my name!

metal mouth [05 Oct 2004|12:33am]
True Story:

While typing away, I ran my tongue along my bottom teeth and noticed one amiss. To my horror, in the last 24 hours my teeth have shifted that extra degree to make my bottom teeth officially very crooked. This pains me, and for those who are familiar with my teeth fetish, you can imagine what a sore spot this will become. I forsee dentists/orthodontists as the new pinkgold vacations. The way skin can stretch, and bodies shift without us knowing is weird science.

Speaking of Science, I can't wait for this:

Current Obsessions Include: [03 Oct 2004|06:41pm]
The Weather Underground. I dream of becoming a revolutionary. It seems that in those times, you could make a difference, that passion did equal change, even in just a small way. I'm not saying it was all good but I like the fact that they were doing something instead of nothing. Sometimes it feels so controlled and tranquelized in present day. I would like to meet Bernadine Dohrn. She seems like an amazing lady. I would like to be as dedicated to change as they were.

Kozyndan! Their art show at Magic Pony looks amazing. They made the coolest colouring (coloring?) book and having those kids visit was so enjoyable. One of my favourite parts of summer and hopefully the beginning of many more good times. I really need to learn how to teleport so we can hang out more often.

autumn. black sweaters. hot choco and fruit. southern cooking. rubber boots. good dreams. 8 hours sleep. old horror movies - THE CHANGELING!

pink and orange stripes [11 Sep 2004|11:16pm]
So, what's new with me?

*I got to see one of my favourite English customers today who is in town for the film fest. That left me rosy cheeked for a good 2 hours.
*SETH SCRIVER has the most awesome art show going on at 1080 Queen West. I fell in love with about 12 of his drawings and Steve helped Seth make a dvd for the show so he gets to keep 2 drawings and he's going to give one to me. <3 That's why he's my favourite.
*I got this MAGICAL James Jarvis print wall-ready and it's on the mantle at Magic Pony so my work days are THAT much sweeter
*The film festival is on. And Colin, the most generous guy on earth gave us tickets to 5 different films (Ghost In the Shell II, The Machinist, Dead Birds, Zebraman, and Rahtree: Flower of the Night)and my old work chum Aubray invited me to another film (On the Outs) and a customer gave me a ticket to Steamboy. This is the only way I would ever be able to see anything at the festival so my deepest gratitude to those with connections.
*Last night was the launch of EAT YOUR FRIENDS www.eatyourfriends.com. I like this magazine. It has potential. They actually write about some cool stuff and don't seem to have the lame attitude a lot Toronto publications come off with. Oh, plus they review Regal Beast II and have a nice article on Kozyndan. I promise I'm not biased.
*We are part of an exhibit at the Japan Foundation focused on female manga/anime characters. We tried to put the Murakami Hiropon girl in, but it got censored.
*Countdown to Kozyndan! Each day I get a little bit more excited about seeing them and hosting their show. Each day they send me something that takes away another piece of my innocence. I wonder if there will be a colouring book page featuring kozy, dan and jude law...!!

[04 Sep 2004|12:41am]
My sister is a fitness nut. This morning she convinced me to go on a 5k run with her. I survived but my legs were all jellowy at the end. After some email problems I decided to do what all normal people do and stop working. Amber, Andy and I went to Value Village instead. I got:
*An embroidered hooded jacket for $2
*Geometric wedge shoes from Spain $5
*Little black blazer $5
*Tears for Fears Cassette $1
*Acid style illustrated Paul Bunyon Record $1
*Video of the MAGIC PONY! $1

We went down to Broadway and I found this teeny alternative bookstore and got a book on the Weather Underground.

Last hit this vintage shop that just happened to be having a midnight madness sale. There, I found the best thing in the world:
*Vintage yellow cardigan with black image of a Skeleton in top hat on the side!!!
Of course I have to buy it, but then find out it's 2for1 and get the most perfect fitting corduroy blazer for free! Also found some black and pink hearted knee socks (not used).

Then my sister announced she was getting engaged at dinner. Wow. Big day.

*Vincent Gallo is all over the press. I love it.
*Kozyndan will be here in a few weeks for their exhibit!
*I ate homemade raspberry pie from my grandma
*My sister returned from a 4 month canoe trip safe
*Autummmmmmn is on the brink of arriving
*Berlin is a very real, very hopeful possibility. Crossing every finger and toe that we will be able to go. I've always wanted to go to Berlin.

house of jealous lovers [23 Aug 2004|03:53pm]
*Michel Gondry. I love him so. The Everlong video...do you remember how good it is? go watch it.

*Strange chaotic dreams of Mikey Apples eloping and the Kozyndan show getting cranked up to high weirdness...then a phonecall from Dan in the morning. Brainwaves travel far.

*They are releasing the minibrothers workers as single mini figures. This is a great idea.

*I want to go see this at the CNE:
SuperDisco SuperDogs - The World's Most Popular Dogs, the Eukanuba SuperDogs, entertain to the exciting beat of "Saturday Night Fever" and beyond.

*Yesterday I went to the Club Monaco sale and bought marilyn monroe inspired clothing items for 30% off. It's all about sleek silhouettes and high heeled black boots and peter pan collared jackets with my moomin valley pin. I love the possibilities of Autumn.
